Cognitive Development

During the 1-2 year period, children's brains are developing rapidly, forming connections that will serve as the foundation for all future learning. Our curriculum supports this critical period through:

Learning Objectives

  • Develop object permanence and understanding of cause and effect
  • Build problem-solving skills through exploration and trial-and-error
  • Enhance memory through repetition and pattern recognition
  • Begin to understand basic concepts like shapes, colors, and sizes
  • Develop early mathematical concepts through sorting and matching

Daily Activities

  • Sensory exploration stations with various textures and materials
  • Simple puzzles and shape sorters that build spatial awareness
  • Cause-and-effect toys that respond to a child's actions
  • Treasure basket exploration with natural and household objects
  • Water and sand play with measuring tools and containers

Developmental Benefits

Our cognitive development activities are designed to stimulate neural connections and build the foundation for future academic success. Research shows that rich sensory experiences and problem-solving opportunities during this period create stronger cognitive pathways.

Children who engage in our cognitive curriculum typically demonstrate:

  • Enhanced curiosity and engagement with their environment
  • Improved ability to focus and sustain attention
  • Greater persistence when faced with challenges
  • Earlier recognition of patterns and relationships

Progress Tracking

We carefully observe and document each child's cognitive development through:

Photos and videos of cognitive milestones shared through our secure parent portal

  • Developmental Checklists

Regular assessments of cognitive skills based on age-appropriate expectations

  • Parent Conferences

Quarterly meetings to discuss progress and collaborate on supporting development
